I have now lost a sleeping bag that was important to my survival. Due to being distracted by a person who I was trying to help that can be very difficult and scares me
People were nice enough to try to help by seeing if I had it with me or didn't in certain locations but it seems I may have left it on a bus. I only took one bus yesterday and it may have been left in a store.
I NEVER get my things back from the public transit system here. Never. Even when it should be easy.
Why do people take other people's things when obviously it's someone needy who has misplaced it?
If I left my gear under the rt 5 bridge freeway in San Diego I used to come back hours later and IT WAS STILL THERE.
In Japan if you misplaced something even something expensive it is the cultural norm to LEAVE IT WHERE IT WAS LEFT until the person comes back for it. No one takes other people's things.
It took me til night time to realize i had lost it also.
People eirher just take people's things to be greedy assholes or people throw them out without putting them into lost and found. Tney may take it on purpose so you cant get it back.
I misplaced my compression sack between 4pm and 5:15 pm on August 31, 2026 (Monday). I went to star market in Cambridge on McGrath highway and then on the mbta 87 bus going to market basket in Somerville ma. When I went into the market basket store in surveillance cams I did not have my compression sack with me.
I can't remember the sequence of events but I should have had it boarding that bus. There's one more time frame i didn't investigate. Sadly many people act as if my possession isn't important especially a sleeping bag but it's imperative to my survival right now because it's just the right weight and temp. My back and muscles arent strong in menopause so I use a folding cart sometimes because I can no longer carry my gear like when I was young. I do it only when I can.
I tried the shelters but they have become horrible and unclean. there is one place that's ok sometimes and there are some genuinely helpful people there. It's funny years ago shelters were somewhat safe for targeted people. Now they aren't because it seems funding is so important for every other kind of homeless person that it's not a safe environment for us anymore.
I've seen the transit system kiss butt to some upper middle class mommy who lost her iPhone but I lose gear for survival and everyone acts like it's an unimportant issue and a waste of their time (one person was nice today but everyone else was rude).
Once I find out about one more time frame if it's the bus I have to push because they just do not care and I need to know if it was left on that bus. What's so frustrating is that if I did leave it on there why wasn't it turned in? Who takes a compression sack?
It's a Sea To Summit white compression sack with black top and straps and a yellow bottom. I havent had money to clean it so it's off white now lol you got to use OxiClean on gear like that cuz if you try to use bleach she'll destroy the rubber inside it is a rubberized compression ssack that's another reason I want it back it cost me $50 for that compression sack. Because it waterproofs your sleeping bag from the rain. I've had it a long time and I hold on to my gear and take care of it )
The sleeping bag is a legacy bag it's a Coleman from the old days and I'm really pissed because you can't buy them like that anymore as you know it's if it's free covid it's going to be quality. Needed to have more stuffing put into it but you can have people refurbish your sleeping bag I think if it's quality. It's a red and gray 50° bag.
The sleeping bags that you used to be able to easily pick up in Walmart are so bad nowadays that they're actually using left oover small tiny plastic fibers from some kind of recycling bullshit to put inside the sleeping bags of stuffing and they're claiming that this is environmental recycling and when you try to use the sleeping bag the stuffing pokes out of the material and falls everywhere because it's shredded up recycled plastic or something like that so don't even bother to buy a sleeping bag from Walmart that's their brand. Target doesn't even make them anymore which is a damn shame.
There is one or two good choices from Walmart I'll go over it at some point.
When you're trying to be extremely frugal it's just easier to buy something decent and take care of it and have it for 10 years or more then it is to have this modern attitude of buying new stuff all the time. On this budget it just isn't possible.
That's why losing something like this hurts so much because I depend on these bags and unfortunately having to take care of two people especially one of them was taking up my time and money I didn't stock up on gear the way I should have when I had a sponsor helping me.
So every item I have is precious.
I live in a wealthy country and I live like I'm living in a third world country. But that's the way it is and I've made it work.
If anybody can help me find my bag let me know I'm going to try to find one last piece of the timeline and then I'm going to try to push to try to see if it was on that bus and who took it.
